Did you  know…

  • Many people dispose of an old TV in a dump instead of recycling.  Approximately  3 out of 10 people put their TV in the trash last year.
  • Approximately 2 out of 10 people threw their desktop computers or monitors  in the garbage in the past year.
  • About 130 million cell phones are discarded in the garbage every year.

You can make a difference!

  • Donate a working TV to a thrift shop or advertise on the web through www.freecycle.org
  • Donate old cell phones to organizations that can recycle the phone and give the phone to people in need. A great example is iReTron, an eco-friendly business founded by 2012 Eco-Hero Award Winner Jason Li.
  • Many towns will offer a day where people can bring items like desktop computers or monitors or TV’s.  Some towns have a day for collection of  solid waste disposal  and a day for collection of electronic and household hazardous waste, prescription and over the counter drugs.
  • Buy rechargeable batteries when you can instead of having to use batteries that will need to be disposed of frequently.
  • Buy electronics that can use solar power to be charged.
