Eco-friendly eating : Making it possible

“Frozen food uses 10 times more energy to produce than fresh food.”

What you can do:

Try to buy food that is grown and harvested locally. Locally grown food stands or markets are emerging in many areas. Research the towns close to you and see if there is a place to buy locally grown foods. Some towns are developing co-op programs where you can care for a particular crop of food grown and can then get a percentage of all that is grown. When you buy food that is grown locally it probably means that there is less time traveled, less energy to preserve it, and less packaging…and it is super fresh!
When shopping at the supermarket, you can look for food that is packaged in recyclable boxes, glass or aluminum. By buying products in recyclable packaging, you will help the environment too!
