Have a very green summer!

I’m not going to be blogging for the rest of the summer, since I’ll be out of state working on environmental policy, but in the spirit of summer, I thought I’d share three ways I’m trying to go greener this summer.

Work: How am I getting around this summer? Public transportation! I’ll keep the city a secret for now, but the rail system is phenomenal, and that’s how I’m getting to work every day. I won’t drive at all this summer – only walking or taking public transportation!

Play: Yeah, even the music I listen to is green! Some of my favorite bands (U2, Green Day and Hot Buttered Rum Рa lesser-known bluegrass band) all support green causes, and buying music feels a little better when you know some of it goes to charity. Also of note, my favorite band (Coldplay) has been a long-time supporter of Make Trade Fair, another very charitable organization. And if you want to find out more about green bands, check out Live Earth (http://liveearth.org/)

School: I have a couple research articles coming out later this month about conservation research, but I also just graduated from my college, and get this – our graduation gowns and hats were 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. Graduation gown: $70. Fee to graduate: $50. Going to graduation wearing only recycled bottles: Priceless. Wherever you go, life takes Action for Nature.
