Nowadays, plastic bags are seen everywhere, it’s common to see people carrying their shopping items in plastic bags. There are many disadvantages associated with plastic bags which can be minimized by making use of more eco-friendly choices in our daily lives such as paper or reusable bags. Plastic bags cause environmental damage; they take years and years to decompose. Plastic bags not only have adverse effects on our natural habitats, but have also been found to be responsible for the death of many animals, mainly by suffocation when they try to eat them. Moreover, plastic bags are enormously pervasive which has resulted in increased levels of pollution.

Plastic bags are not biodegradable and for this reason, burning is the method which is used to get rid of them. Burning plastic releases toxic fumes into the environment which ultimately makes a greater contribution to air pollution. The disadvantages associated with plastic bags cannot be neglected as they harm the environment by various means. The most important drawback of plastic bags is that they are not renewable.

It is very indispensable to think about saving our environment by full ardor and endless devotion. In March 2012 I organized an event named, “Let’s Switch to Paper Bags- Save the Environment!”. There were around 50 children and youngsters of the community involved in the event. The message of using plastic bags and its harmful effects on our health indirectly, and on environment directly, was spread. The event proceeded by cleaning the whole community premises and gathering all the plastic bags on ground the. Also, the message of health and hygiene was given to the participants involved in the event. This was just a single step for making our environment more green. If paper bags are used in daily lives, many of harmful effects on environment associated with plastic bags can be gotten rid of. Paper bags are 100 per cent reusable, recyclable and biodegradable, and they are environmentally preferred. Moreover it is a renewable resource – they come from trees.

We all have to take green actions towards making our world a better place to subsist in, and using paper bags will be a green-step towards making our world a greener orb. Also, bags can be made from cloth which is also a green way to go for a brighter world.
