San Francisco Bay Area Event – iMatter March, Sunday May 8th

Apr 18th, 2011 | By | Category: Make a Difference!

WHO: Youth, people who support youth, moms, dads, families, grandparents, friends, people who care about the future.
WHAT: A national youth march against global warming, in all 50 states.
WHERE: San Francisco – we begin at 24th and Mission and march to City Hall.
WHEN: Sunday, May 8th, 1-4 p.m (during Sunday Streets — come early to enjoy the car-free festive streets!)
WHY: Because youth are issuing a bold call to action challenging our leaders and the general public to take action on the Climate Crisis, the greatest challenge of the 21st Century. Because our leaders need a wake-up call from youth, who will feel the effects most from the Climate Crisis. Because youth MATTER – our future matters – and it’s time to join our actions together and make our voices heard.

MARCH ORGANIZERS: Kids vs. Global Warming and Alec Loorz, its 16-year-old founder

MARCH CELEBRATION: On the steps of City Hall, be inspired by Alec Loorz, Ted Turner, Youth Speaks, Pachamama’s Pajamas, rap artist AshEL Eldridge and others!

So, what happened with the change of location? Very disappointing for those of us who made an effort (7 1/2 months pregnant and chose to come from the East Bay and spend my day marching rather than going to the woods with my husband) to get to 24th and Mission, and then discover that the location had been changed to Justin Herman Plaza. Hopped on the Bart hoping to get there in time and……. not so much. A day of riding public transit chasing a climate change march – well at least I didn’t drive there.
