“Killing tigers is for GREED, not for NEED: SAVE TIGERS” – Anonymous

This quote reminds us as animal lovers, to help stop the widespread and growing international poaching of the tigers. Tigers deserve the same concern and protection that other animals are receiving through the efforts of the World Wildlife Fund. Around the globe, and notably in Canada, many famous people have gained fame by using “tiger” in their names. These icons include Tiger Jeet Singh from Milton, Ontario, Canada & Salman Khan from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Tiger Jeet Singh has signified the use of “tiger” within his name by displaying how he fights like a predator in the wrestling arena, much like a tiger catches prey. Salman Khan channels the “tiger” in his approach as a spy in his movie ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ which was an instant multi-million dollar success, giving him fame and much recognition.

I think all the emphasis around these two big shots can actually help bring attention to the plight of real tigers and help them go from nearly-extinct to becoming a healthy population. These celebrities can use their “tiger” names to promote how it is essential for humans to help the tiger species, so they can thrive in future generations. The poaching of this endangered species has been ruthless. These precious animals are killed needlessly for their skin, fur, and even their teeth, and they need our help!

A while back, before poaching became so prevalent, these beautiful animals were not such a target for fashion styles or folk remedies. But, the amount of poachers have increased around the world and these poachers, often living in poor locations, have turned to poaching as a way to make a living. They have started to hunt animals ranging from elephants for their tusks, tigers for their fur and so on.

According to the WWF, there are currently only as few as 3,200 tigers worldwide. How can we possibly help the tiger to get out of this endangered state? YOU can help by spreading the word on how this special species is in great danger. YOU can help by letting people know that poaching tigers is wrong, ruthless and does not need to be done. Tigers are an important species which play a vital role in nature; as a top predator, they help balance nature. Furthermore, YOU can let people know that it’s important to spread awareness to help in the ambitious task of saving the tiger.

Tigers have feelings too, and they have been attacked for a long time, depleting their numbers and driving them towards extinction. In order to raise awareness to help sustain the habitats of tigers, and tigers themselves, we need to let people know what poaching truly is-the criminal act of murdering an animal. It is time for us to lend a hand to these big cats. All I want to say is that poaching tigers should be a criminal act, instead of being regarded as “just another one of those environmental concerns”. This is why it’s so important for the celebrities who use the “tiger” name to use their notoriety to tell the world to protect tigers from brutal poaching. It’s much more than a name; it’s a battle for animal rights!
